International Writing Competition offers students a £2,000 Grand Prize
The Justis International Law & Technology Writing Competition 2020 is launching on the 1st October 2019 for its third consecutive year. Unlike previous years the competition topics have been released early to give students more time. The popular competition that receives entries from students around the world tasks students to write 1,000 words on one of three topics. This year the topics are: Technology & the future of legal practice, Social Media, Data and Privacy and Access to Justice and Technology.
With a grand prize of £2,000 and publication on the popular Legal Cheek Journal – one of the most read legal websites in the UK – Dr Matthew Terrell, Head of Marketing for Justis, who oversees the competition, hopes that they will receive more entries than ever before.
“Moving from university to the workplace can be challenging and very competitive, and we hope this competition can help students stand out from the crowd with their ability to produce professional, thought-provoking articles. Last year we received so many fantastic entries and I am hoping we receive even more this year.”
Alongside the overall winner, three prizes of £250 will be awarded to three authors voted Best in Category, by a panel of distinguished judges, which have previously included Nicole Allaband, Editor-in-Chief, Richmond Journal of Law & Technology, David F. Wills, Editor, Legal Information Management (LIM) and Squire Law Librarian, University of Cambridge, Liesel Weekes, President of the Barbados Bar Association and Jennifer Walker, Head Librarian at County of Carleton Law Association.
Additionally, the overall winner and best in category articles will be published on the Justis and vLex blogs and included in Justis’ international newsletter that reaches thousands of legal practitioners around the world. In past years, competition entries have been published in Legal Information Management and Artificial Lawyer.
Past winners of the competition include students from Harvard University, the University of Oxford, Trinity College Dublin, the University of London, BPP, and the University of Auckland. Roisin Costello, the Overall Winner from 2018 shares her thoughts on the competition:
