Banksy made a mural in Ukraine using damaged buildings

• Banksy created a mural showing a gymnast balance on a pile in Borodyanka Ukraine.
• In the early months of war, Russian shelling damaged and invaded Kyiv. 
• Banksy isn’t the only one who has been recognized in graffiti found in war-torn towns.

According to reports, Banksy, a street artist, created a mural of a Ukrainian building that had been damaged by Russian shelling. BBC. 

The artist, who is still unknown, shared his impression of a gymnast standing on a pile rubble. He also shared a photo of the image on Instagram with a caption about its location in Borodyanka (about 35 miles outside of Kyiv). 

The Russian invasion has wreaked havoc on the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, as well as the surrounding areas. Russian troops occupied Borodyanka for weeks when the war began in February until Ukraine took the town back in April, according to BBC.

Two other artworks that look similar to Banksy’s were found in the Kyiv area, but they have not been confirmed as his pieces, according to BBC. 

Borodyanka has a mural that depicts an elderly man being flipped in a judo match. BBC claims that the older man resembles Russian President Vladimir Putin. He is a judo blackbelt. 

According to the BBC, a third piece in Irpin depicts a gymnast with a neckbrace and twirling ribbon.

Residents fled the townIn March, during a Russian bombardment, one Ukrainian official stated that it was “100% targeting civilians.”Ukraine had reclaimed Irpin at the end of March, but had not yet lost some 200-300 citizens.
