The must-see technology that is changing how radiation is detected
The first ever integrated rugged tablet radiation detector
Sensinite has released an entirely new product line designed for personal who need to detect potential nuclear and radiological threats. The Algiz 8X is a rugged tablet manufactured by the Handheld group which can be transformed into a portable radiation detector by mounting a radiation detector accessory developed by Sensinite. The purpose of this device is to allow the user to detect potential sources of radiation, there location and alert the user to there presence. This device could help save lives and reduce the amount of radiation safety personal are exposed to.
Handheld group is a Swedish company behind the development of the rugged tablets. Sensinite is a Finnish start-up which has developed radiation detectors. This collaboration has allowed for the progression of the integrated rugged tablet radiation detector. The focus area for this product is large from security forces, military, nuclear power plants, scrap metal processing, container handling and other logistic area who need a radiation detector.
The device is intended as a personal radiation detector for military or civilian use. It is designed as a rugged handheld detector which can be carried in your hands, in a carry case or vehicle mounted. When gamma radiation is detected it alerts the users on-screen, with sound and vibration.
Sensinite has a strong background of in research and development. The technology aims to reveal a hidden world by mapping gamma emitting radiation sources on a map using the GPS feature of the device. Software and product development are undertaken in house.
The Sensinite detector is only 210 g and analyses dose rate, count rate, running average and give a graph of the operational data. The handheld Algiz 8x has a Windows 10 operating system, an 8-inch touch-screen and a weight of 990 g including the battery. The integrated radiation detector weighs 1.2 kg altogether.
Jani Karlsson, Sensinite’s CEO explained that “This integrated rugged tablet radiation detector is the first of it’s kind, we are very excited about the potential of the development for improving the safety of personnel who may come into contact with sources of radiation.”
