LONDON, October 13th 2022 – The Female Pilot Club Podcast, hosted by award-winning comedy TV and Radio writer and Female Pilot Club founder Kay Stonham (My Family, Harry Enfield and Chums, Alistair McGowan’s Big Impression, Shaun the Sheep,) and actress and writer Emily Chase (The Pact, Bad Salsa, Bloody Comedy TV), launches Series 2 on Spotify and Apple Podcasts on Thursday 13th October. The club is open!
Stonham and Chase talk comedy script-writing with women writers, from absolute beginners to Emmy award winners. The podcast features clips with top comedy performers from live Female Pilot Club shows.
Series 2 opens with renowned comic actress and Female Pilot Clubber Kerry Howard, whose debut at the Royal National Theatre, Jack Absolute Flies Again is currently celebrating its theatrical release as part of NT Live. The podcast also features Athena Kugblenu, host of Radio 4’s Athena’s Cancel Culture and Keeping Athena Company, longtime writing duo for Cartoon Network, Sam Lyden and Teresa Burns, and presenter, journalist and comedy writer Zara Janjua, who as well as being a finalist in the Women of the Future award was a runner up in the David Nobbs Comedy Writing Award 2021, part of the Female Pilot Club Mentorship scheme in 2021 and is currently writing and starring in Short Stuffs for BBC iplayer.
“The Female Pilot Club exists to amplify brilliant female comedy voices and to help great TV pilot scripts take off and fly!” says Kay Stonham, “We’re excited to get another chance to laugh at some great female written gags and gaffs as well as to swap tips, gossip and some mercifully non-cheesy motivational stories with another amazing group of comedy writers this season.”
The Club was founded to address inequality. Female writers continue to face challenges pursuing careers in the film and television industry. The Writers’ Guild of Great Britain (WGGB) revealed in their 2018 Gender Inequality and Screenwriters report that only 17% of comedy films made in the UK had at least one female writer, and that just 11% of TV sitcoms were predominantly female-written. The Club aims to break down barriers for female writers, interviewing comedy’s best writing talent in order to inform, inspire, and of course, make you laugh.
Series 2 of The Female Pilot Club Podcast launches on Thursday 13th October, available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
