Red Boots Score More Goals!
A 2008 study from scientists at Durham and Plymouth University looked at the winning history of 68 top English teams from 1946 and 2013 discovering that red shirts win more matches, well it seems the boots are having an effect this season.
Whilst Nike’s yellow Mercurial have been seen on most feet, the red adidas boots have score the most goals in the opening of the 2021/22 Premier League season!
Red is about fire and passion, so it’s only apt that most of the Premier League goals scored so far in the opening weeks came from Red boots. Surprisingly, it also indicates which football boot brand is leading in terms of scoring impact!
The red X Speedflow line from the adidas Meteorite pack came a close second, but at the start of the season outscored the Mercurial 2:1 despite being outnumbered by players on pitch! Talk about making it count where it matters the most for Heung-min Son, Mohamed Salah, and the rest of the adidas contracted players who are also wearing red in the Predator and Copa versions.
Another boot dominating appearances is the Nike Phantom GT 2 with its predominantly white colourway from the Motivation collection. Scoring at a similar rate to the iconic Mercurial. No surprise considering it is the boot of choice by the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Jack Grealish.
Adding to the red adidas boots on pitch have been the Puma Ultra, but things may be about to change with the major brands dropping new boots it seems we’ll be seeing new colours on player’s feet very soon. It will be interesting to see which colour comes out on top come the end of the season.
