Meet the Chief Vibe Officer at Kilo Health – the Legend of San Diego

I was finishing up yet another long shift at the bar and my head was buzzing with thoughts. I was angry, but this time I knew it wouldn’t go away after a good night’s sleep. It was clear that I was done with being a bartender and I needed something new ­– a bigger, better and more a fulfilling challenge. As I served my last customers, I was looking forward to going home, but my heart sank when three guys suddenly appeared. I explained that I was done for the day and instead of just asking them to leave, I gave them the names of other pubs that were still open in the area and explained how to get there.

One of these guys, Tadas, said that I was an awesome and honest bartender, and he sincerely appreciated the fact that I didn’t leave them hanging. I wasn’t convinced – customers usually say these things to get a drink, despite the fact that we were closed. Then he added one more sentence, which was kind of like a punchline that people use to win an argument: “I think I have the perfect job for you!” Yeah right, I thought – every bartender on earth has heard that sentence hundreds of times.

However, Tadas went on to say, “I’m giving you my number. Call me on Monday and you’ll meet the other team members next week, as they’re just going to San Diego.”

Little did he know, but I was wearing a t-shirt with the words “San Diego” written on it in bold lettering.

I flashed open my bomber jacket and exposed my t-shirt to the group. The expressions on their faces were priceless. 

Kilo Health’s CEO Tadas Burgaila reveals other side of the story. According to the CEO, in its first expansion phase, the Kilo Health team had reached almost 60 people but the company still did not have a Staff Manager. Tadas himself had done most of the screening and hiring, but with every new employee it was getting harder and harder to synchronise these HR duties with the day-to-day business operations of a CEO.

“At the time, I had conducted about 30 job interviews for the Personnel Manager position, but I failed to find some with an attitude that matched, or was at least close to our own. Then, one day I noticed this bartender who was able to take care of everyone, topping up cups, telling jokes and chatting casually with strangers. I thought – that’s the kind of Chief of Staff I want. I began talking to him and we shook hands, and the next Monday morning Artūras became our ‘Chief Vibe Officer’,” said T. Burgaila.
