UFC Hall of Fame History:
The Las Vegas-based UFC Hall of Fame was founded on November 21, 2003, during UFC 45. The first inductees were UFC pioneers Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock.
The UFC relaunched its Hall of Fame in 2015. The Hall became four wings. A new class of legends would be honored at a big ceremony at the UFC’s International Fight Week in Las Vegas each July.
UFC Hall of Fame’s four wings:
- Modern Wing: This wing honors champions who debuted after the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts took effect on November 28, 2000, at UFC 28.
- Pioneers Wing: Honoring MMA pioneers before the Unified Rules.
- Fight Wing: Honors MMA’s greatest fights.
- Contributors Wing: Honors those who have made substantial contributions to the sport outside of competition.
The Forrest Griffin Community Award recognizes UFC athletes’ community service and philanthropy.
Former UFC executive Anthony Evans continuously pitched the four-wing concept to UFC President Dana White, resulting in the new Hall of Fame format. White allowed the change in 2015.
The UFC Performance Institute’s staircase honors the UFC Hall of Fame’s notable members.
