Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Co bringing business back to Britains farmers as they launch 100 percent British wool mattresses
Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Company, founded in Norfolk, are celebrating the launch of their new and sustainable mattress collection that is made of 100% British wool. Currently, the business boasts the title of being the only carbon neutral plus bed maker in the UK. Their new product range is set to add to their sustainability accolades, partnering with British wool farmers to offer an authentic product that proudly reflects their hard work.

Championing British wool manufacturers

The British wool industry dates all the way back to the stone-age, however it wasn’t until the Industrial Revolution that its significance grew. New technology speeded up the weaving and spinning process, making wool the backbone, and driving force of the economy.

Working with British wool farmers to create an authentic and handmade mattress range, Amanda Thompson, Founder of Wrought and Brass Bed Co, believes it’s time recognise the industry’s evolution:

“Since I founded Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Co. nearly twenty years ago, authenticity has played a fundamental role. My aim with this new mattress collection is to raise awareness of one of the most sustainable natural fibres available in the United Kingdom. British wool deserves greater value than it does; the whole country was founded on the wool trade. Our new mattress range is about sustainability, respecting the natural material and ensuring we can help drive a more valued price for the British sheep farmer.”

Reclaiming the wool industry

“Sadly, there is a high level of greenwashing. And like the metal bed market twenty years ago, I won’t stand for it any longer.” – Amanda Thompson, Founder of Wrought and Brass Bed Co, speaking out against greenwashing practices in the wool industry.

Although wool products in Britain are often marketed as a sustainable and affordable option, often consumers are misled. Greenwashing, the practice of falsely marketing a company or organisation to appear ecologically and environmentally friendly, continues to impact the wool industry. Working cooperatively with British farmers throughout the process of sourcing the sheep, grading and manufacturing the wool, Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Company hope their transparency will encourage people to question how the materials in their household are sourced.

Speaking on this, Mrs Thompson added:

“We want to encourage consumers to start asking questions, hold manufacturers accountable, and ask essential questions regarding traceability and what is in their mattresses. Sadly, there is a high level of greenwashing. And like the metal bed market twenty years ago, I won’t stand for it any longer.”
