A Preface To Different Levels, Types & Facilities Of Healthcare

A health system consists of all the organizations, people, and actions that are the primary intent to reinstate, promote or maintain health. A health system is a pyramid of facilities owned by the public, which delivers personal health services.

It includes the institutions, resources, and people involved in providing health care to all individuals. For example, a mother taking care of her sick child at home or a child getting rehabilitation services at school, etc. Health care services are divided into three levels, these levels are:

Primary Level Of Care

The primary care level is the first level of contact with a family, individual, or community with the health system. This primary care level is most efficient, and this includes:

  • PHC
  • BHU, RHC, THQ
  • Clinics

These levels are for routine checkups and ensure proper treatments for everyday health issues.

Secondary Level Of Care

The secondary level of care is the second level of care. This level deals with the most complex problems. It is the higher level of care; it includes:

  • DHQ
  • Hospitals
  • Health centers

As the name suggests, secondary care is for surgeries, long-born illnesses, and thorough checkups of the patients.

Tertiary level of care

At the tertiary level of care, you will get health care that is specialized. At this level, facilities, which are specific to certain ailments, are available. To deal with it, technical workers are public. It includes:

  • Teaching hospitals
  • Specialized hospitals
  • Central hospitals

The top level of the healthcare chain is the tertiary level, which involves these specialized facilities for treating more chronic cases.

Types Of Health Care Facilities

With the increase in health care system complexity, the patients have many choices for receiving the care. There are many health care providers, such as Pro Health Center. Different kinds of facilities are:

  • Hospital

A hospital is a primary task that provides short-term care to people with severe health issues resulting in injury, genetic abnormality, or diseases. Hospitals consist of physicians with assorted specialties, skilled nurses, and health care administrators to provide the best care to people. The hospitals are open 24 hours and seven days a week.

  • Doctor’s Office

The doctor’s office is a medical facility where one or more doctors provide treatment to patients. These offices offer people routine care and treatments for acute conditions. These offices generally focus on one type of medicine. However, some health care providers are either practitioners or practice typical specialties.

  • Urgent Care Clinic

The urgent care clinic is where people cannot visit their doctor’s office, but they want primary health care; this doesn’t require any appointments. Critical care clinics are sometimes known as walk-in clinics; they provide their patients with immediate care. But it is essential to understand that the urgent care clinics are not similar to the emergency rooms in hospitals.

When you seek good care for yourself or your loved ones, it is necessary to know the services that several health care facilities offer to their patients. Then, based on the patient’s health issue, one can find the best facility provider that suits their needs.
