Tips to Organise Your Life in Bangalore

Tips to Organise Your Life in Bangalore

Are you a hoarder? If yes, you’re in the right place. If not, are you sure? Because whether we like to admit it or not, most of us tend to err on the side of hoarding. You’ve got a lot of stuff, from your clothes to your personal belongings to objects that you’re emotionally attached to. And add to that the convenience of being able to buy anything else that you want online in a matter of minutes, and you’ve got the recipe for clutter. But when you live in a single room for rent, it can be difficult to live comfortably if you’re surrounded by a lot of stuff. That’s why it’s important to take a leaf out of Marie Kondo’s book and start organising your life. And we’ve got some top tips to help you do just that. Check it out!

Take a top-down approach

When it comes to starting out the process of organisation, it can be difficult to know where exactly you want to begin. Is it your cupboard that you should tackle first, or the underbed storage? What about the shoe rack and your desk? Don’t spend ages agonising over where to begin, instead, treat cleaning up the way you would think of reading a book. Start organising your furniture from the top down, in a left to right fashion. This will give you a clear sequence to follow and ensure that you can organize your belongings according to how often you use them. Keeping items that you use daily or regularly, like your running shoes or laptop, in easily accessible places will ensure that you’re able to stick to your organisation system.

Throw as you go

Organising is a great time for you to not only take stock of your belongings but also to cut down on some that are on their last legs. Segregate through your stuff and discard any old, outdated or broken items. If you find any items that are in good condition that you no longer want or need, you can set them aside to donate or resell. But it can be hard to get rid of a lot of stuff in one go. So, one way to help yourself do this is by marking items that you want to get rid of eventually, but that still have a few uses left. Place bits of washi tape on them or place them in bins near the door so that you have visible reminders around you. After all, organisation is a continuous process, and this will ensure that the future-you has a head start.

Try the reverse hanger system

When it comes to items like clothes and cutlery, you possibly own a lot of options, but end up using the same items on a regular basis. Which means that you have a lot of stuff lying around going completely unused. Using something like the reverse hanger system will help you identify your own usage patterns and donate or resell items you no longer use. This involves placing all your clothes on hangers and putting them in your cupboard the wrong way around. Then, every time you actually wear an item, you can flip the hanger to face yourself. This will help you know exactly what you wear and what you don’t. You can do the same with your cutlery by having two separate drawers. Within a month, you’ll be able to analyse your usage patterns and better organise your life.

Declutter digitally

Nowadays we spend most of our lives online, which means organising the physical space that you live in isn’t enough. You need to take steps to clear up your digital footprint as well. Go through the different folders on your phone and see what you’ve accumulated. Do you really need to save the entire chat history with your flatmates in Bangalore when you live in the same house? Do you still need the thousands of screenshots that you’ve saved in your gallery? What about the apps that you downloaded ages ago and never used? Deleting these will free up space on your phone and help it run faster. Do this exercise with your laptop as well, going over your downloads, and clearing cooking on your browser too. Doing this exercise once every month or so will ensure that you’re a lot more organised and can always find what you’re looking for.

So, there you have it. These organising tips are the perfect ways for you to get your life on track in Bangalore. Go ahead and try them out.
