Brides Flock Abroad As National Wedding Costs Soar!

With the lingering presence of our favourite virus, 2021 finally sees the easing of lockdown rules limiting UK wedding ceremonies. UK wedding costs have spiked following the lifting of restrictions, standing at an average of £27,161. This figure is ever rising. Staycation honeymoons are also considerably more expensive than their foreign equivalents, with rates of self-catered accommodation in the UK soaring to 41% above equivalent prices in 2019.

Cliphair conducted a survey to delve deeper into the effects of COVID on attitudes to weddings in 2021. Over 50% of all women asked said they would prefer to have a wedding abroad in 2021, a stark increase from the 25% in 2019. 

The alarming staycation rates also appear to drive newlyweds out of the country for their honeymoons. Again, when asked if they’d prefer to travel abroad or remain local, 86% of women preferred to brave restrictions for overseas Covid honeymoons.
