Iconic London hotel to auction off luxury furniture

The Westbury London was opened in 1955, becoming the first 5-star American hotel in London and one of the finest hotels in Mayfair, are to put more than 8,000 items under the hammer next month ahead of a major renovation project.

The Westbury Mayfair’s classic styling permeates throughout the property, influenced by its proximity to the high-end world of design. primely located on Bond Street, in the heart of Mayfair’s fashion and arts district.  will be selling off an array of luxury furnishings, authentic artwork and accessories all reflecting its breath-taking grandeur.

Over the course of the three-day sale organised by specialist hospitality auctioneers Pro Auction, buyers will have the opportunity to acquire the trappings of a five-star lifestyle for a fraction of the cost before the hotel undergoes its refurbishment.

The sale will cover every aspect of furniture within each room including sofas, lamps, chandeliers and drapery, writing desks, headboards and canopies to decorative accessories, along with the furniture and fitting in the public areas, bars and restaurants, commercial kitchen and the wine cellar stock.

Amongst the items being auctioned are signed prints by leading contemporary artists; bespoke luxury Italian lighting and chandeliers from Barovier & Toso, while there is an array of designer furniture including pieces from Smania and Medes Italy.

Simon Rose of Pro Auction said: “This unprecedented renovation project for the hotel brings with it the opportunity to purchase a piece of the hotel’s history at auction as the owners pave the way for a new chapter for The Westbury.”

The Westbury, which opened in 1955  has consistently exuded style and has attracted Royalty, ‘A’ list celebrities and those with a taste for the finer things in life through its doors. The hotel has maintained a rolling refurbishment  program throughout the years.

However, is it poised to undergo a major refurbishment as part of the hotel’s commitment to providing guests with unrivalled facilities and services. The new designs by a world-renowned interior designer will enhance all guest rooms and public areas and integrate the latest innovations whilst honouring the building’s architectural heritage as one of London’s finest landmarks.

The auction takes place at the hotel between 7 and 10th June commencing at 10.30am each day. Online bidding will also be available via a live webcast and the bedroom furniture can be purchased by a timed online auction.
