British author recognised at prestigious American business book awards
A book about the importance of starting business conversations in the right way has been recognised at a major American book awards ceremony.
The First Minute: How to Start Conversations That Get Results, written by British author Chris Fenning, won a bronze medal in the 2021 Axiom Business Book Awards.
Chosen from nearly 500 entrants, the gold, silver and bronze medals honour the best business books published during the past year. Previous winners include industry icons Seth Godin, Guy Kawasaki and Peter Drucker.
Fenning’s book, which has already been honoured at the Feathered Quill Book Awards, focuses on a single minute of communication that the author says can ”make the difference between being recognised as a great communicator or not”.
Fenning said: “Most communication books focus on presentation skills, public speaking or body language. Some authors focus on specific categories of communication like the difficult conversations between managers and employees.
“The First Minute is different. It focuses on just a single minute of communication. A minute that occurs at the start of almost every conversation, email and meeting we have at work.
“We have all been told about the importance of being clear and concise when communicating at work, but who knows how to achieve that goal? The answers to this question are laid out in The First Minute.”
On his Axiom award, Fenning added: ”It’s a huge honour to receive this award. The Axiom awards are open to business authors from around the world and are dominated by heavyweight American writers. As a British author, it’s very satisfying to go toe to toe with them and come out a winner.”
