SGS Supports the Safe Transmission of Power to the Spanish Electrical Grid with NTS Accreditation

SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, is leading the way in Europe after gaining Norma Tecnica de Supervision (NTS) accreditation in Spain for the testing and validation of simulation models for Power Generating Units.

The standard, in accordance with the EU Regulation 631/2016, aims to support the safe roll out of renewable power generation throughout Europe. It establishes the procedure for evaluating the connection requirements for generators to the grid, dividing them into four categories (Plant category A, B, C or D) depending on the power rating of the final plant and the voltage at the grid connection point.

SGS is one of the first organizations to gain NTS accreditation since the standard was introduced in July 2019. It enables SGS to test and validate simulation models for power generating units such as PV Inverters and other components of distributed energy resources plants, such as Power Plant Controllers and STATCOM, amongst others.

Daniel Arranz, Certification Manager, Renewable Energies, said: “We are proud to have one of the widest accreditation capabilities for grid connection which means we can now offer the possibility of combined testing with requirements from other countries, such as Italy or Germany.

“Thanks to our focus on drastically reducing our costs and time, we have completed the first accredited testing projects in record time and look forward to ensuring our customers are able to benefit from quicker access to a larger market.”
