Elms Bank Virtual Choir – Special Needs School raises over £1000 for NHS Charities Together

After such an overwhelmingly heart-warming response to Elms Bank’s first virtual choir song ‘True Colours’, Elms Bank community have come together once more to not just thank key workers through their singing, but raise money for NHS charities. The second song ‘Ain’t No Mountain’ is a tribute to everyone facing difficult times and we hope our version will lift people’s spirits.

Elms Bank has used its strong commitment to its choirs to keep connected at this time and we extend this warmth to that wider community. So many people and organisations contacted Elms Bank after ‘True Colours’ and it was very clear it brought a wider Greater Manchester community together. Elms Bank even appeared on Granada’s very own virtual choir with many people and stars from across the North West!

Many students and staff at Elms Bank have underlying health issues and the school supported them in their decisions to self-isolate. Our Twitter challenges have kept the community together, but the #keepsinging challenge has enabled us to widen our community and welcome others into it. Over 50 members of Elms Bank community have contributed to the song, along with Salford City Lionesses, who contacted us after seeing ‘True Colours’.  It was a great honour to have them as part of our singing community and we also attracted more people to play the music which adds another level to this song.

‘Ain’t No Mountain’ is dedicated to everyone within the Elms Bank community who are self-isolating but finding these times tough. We want to reach out to raise the spirits of our students who aren’t able to see their friends and dedicated staff teams, but also give the message that we are thankful to the ones on the front line. Their actions continue to go beyond our gratitude!
