Harry Kane’s England Doubt

HARRY Kane’s latest injury will see him sitting on the sidelines for Tottenham for months – and puts his chances of starring for England in this summer’s Euros in serious doubt.

The Spurs sharpshooter is Three Lions captain and the man who grabbed the golden boot at the last World Cup when he netted six goals in Russia.

And while his absence won’t be a new experience for fans of the North London club, it will be a shock to the national team not to see their skipper taking the field against Croatia on June 14 at Wembley Stadium.

Spurs managed pretty well without Kane on their remarkable run to the Champions League final last season – especially during their memorable semi-final second-leg comeback against Ajax in Amsterdam.

But England boss Gareth Southgate will be seriously worried about his No.9 and leader being crocked, out of form or both when his team looks a decent bet to win a trophy for the first time since 1966.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho says Kane could be out for the season. Other reports suggest he could be back as soon as April.

But there are no guarantees and even that optimistic estimate leaves a relatively short amount of time for him to regain match sharpness.

So, who does that leave to fill his goalscoring boots?

The smart money is on Manchester United youngster Marcus Rashford, who has ripped apart Premier League defences this season and is already well established in the England set-up.

But he too is on the treatment table, having picked up a back injury against Wolves last week. Rashford is possibly showing some wear and tear after having to almost single-handedly keep Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in a job at Old Trafford.

Southgate has plenty of options in the wide areas – with Raheem Sterling and Jadon Sancho shoo-ins, and Chelsea teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi literally waiting in the wings.

That still leaves a big hole to fill through the middle, though.

Bournemouth centre-forward Callum Wilson is one name in the frame, but he’s desperately out of form in a team seemingly slipping towards relegation.
