Chelsea All But Clear To Sign Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho As German Side Secures Deal For Erling Haaland

Chelsea All But Clear To Sign Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho As German Side Secures Deal For Erling Haaland

Chelsea are the reported favourites to sign BVB Borussia Dortmund hotshot Jadon Sancho following the German side’s capture of Norwegian striker Erling Haaland from Red Bull Salzburg this month.

The 19-year-old had been one of the most sought-out attackers in Europe in recent times and will make his move to Dortmund official on January 3, paving the way for Sancho’s exit.

Sancho’s season has been one filled with controversy and he’s thought to be keen on leaving in January, although he may be willing to bide his time until the summer. The former Watford and Manchester City winger is a known Blues fan and is likely to pick Roman Abramovich’s club if he’s made available.

SunSport is reporting that the Londoners are currently working on a deal for the player, following the lifting of their transfer ban, with signing and loaning the player back to BVB also understood to be an option. They did pretty much the same when they agreed a deal for Christian Pulisic last January and the American star was able to join them during the summer in spite of the ban.

Lampard is desperate to replace the creativity lost through the sale of Belgian superstar Eden Hazard to Spanish giants Real Madrid at the end of last season and Sancho is reported to be the club’s prime choice. Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha is also believed to be a target for the Blues as he would present a cheaper option with Premier league experience. Sancho, though, is eight years younger than the Ivorian attacker and offers significant resale value given that his best years are still ahead of him.

Dortmund are bracing for Sancho’s exit after signing Haaland for £18m on the weekend and expect to earn a cool £100 million if they sell the English star.

Sancho will be particularly encouraged by the fact that Lampard has been placing trust in his youngsters at Chelsea, initiating an unprecedented era under their Russian owner. The likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori, Reece James and Pulisic have all flourished after being handed chances under the former Blues midfielder this term, while prospects such as Billy Gilmour, Marc Guehi and Tariq Lamptey have also been given opportunities.

The transfer window will be open very soon and Chelsea are perhaps bursting with anticipation. But, in the meantime, they will be focused on their upcoming match against Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday. The Blues are 1/1 favourites to pick up a win over their Premier League counterparts, who have been given 56/19 odds, while a draw is at 11/4.

Meanwhile, the Blues are 4/7 to finish in the top four with Bet365. Lampard guided his side to an impressive comeback win over Arsenal on Sunday that also put a bit of daylight between them and fifth-placed Manchester United. The Red Devils are 5/2 with the aforementioned bookmakers, who have the same odds on Tottenham Hotspur and 10/1 on Nuno Espírito Santo’s Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Bringing in a player of Sancho’s capabilities would certainly enhance Chelsea’s chances of ending the 2019/20 campaign in the top flight’s top four. They will hope to complete a transfer for the young England international as soon as possible as they’re far from being his only suitors.
