World’s First Gender-Neutral Mannequin Available for General Sale to Hit UK Shops
A Yorkshire-based online retail supplies firm has developed the world’s first gender-neutral mannequin for general sale. The Retail Factory, headquartered in West Yorkshire, created the product in-house in response to the growing trend among the world’s biggest fashion retailers for releasing genderless clothing ranges. The mannequins will hit UK shops shortly, revolutionising the way stores present their fashion lines.
The Retail Factory will be the sole UK supplier of these world exclusive ungendered mannequins, which are designed specifically to display clothing aimed at both men and women, as well as shoppers who are gender-fluid, non-binary and gender-nonconformists.
Although leading retailers such as John Lewis, Abercrombie and Fitch, H&M, Next and Zara already supply gender-neutral clothing lines, the issue of how to present these products has never been successfully resolved. Some shops use gendered mannequins, whilst others dispense with mannequins altogether, neither of which are ideal solutions in a retail environment.
It is this challenge that inspired The Retail Factory’s National Sales Manager, Gemma Liddon, to develop the world’s first gender-neutral mannequin for general sale. Despite the emerging trend for gender-neutral fashion, Gemma couldn’t find a suitable mannequin to supply to her customers. Rather than give up, she decided to take on the project of developing her own solution. Gemma describes the gender-neutral mannequin as her “baby” and says of the process: “It took 10 months in planning, design and creation working with designers and sculptor before sending the finished mould into production which can take up to three months.”
The result of this hard work is The Retail Factory’s world exclusive gender-neutral mannequin, which will help keep retailers across the UK ahead of the curve with one of the most important and exciting fashion industry trends in decades.
The Retail Factory launched in 2006 and is now the UK’s number one destination for retail and office supplies. The company recently launched its redesigned and revamped e-commerce website www.theretailfactory.co.uk, from where it supplies companies across the country, with each client being assigned a dedicated account manager.
