These are the most wanted summertime items – according to Amazon

Doggy nail polish, outdoor cinema screens and make-your-own cheese kits are among the weird and wonderful items Brits will be filling their homes with this summertime, according to tech experts.

Data released by Amazon also revealed the population will be splashing their hard-earned cash on drones, cocktail trollies and smart speakers.

The world’s largest online retailer’s trend report used future-forecasting and sales figures to identify six trends to help shoppers stay one step ahead of the Joneses.

There has been a huge upsurge in pet care products, with a 188 per cent increase in dog nail polish sold – and a 107 per cent increase in luxurious memory-foam beds for our canine companions.

The Amazon.co.uk report, compiled with Martin Raymond, co-founder of The Future Laboratory, has also seen a 260 per cent rise in sales of dog-friendly rosé and beer.

Martin Raymond said: “When it comes to feeding our four-legged friends we are treating them like surrogate humans.

“Many of the brands we encounter in our research are developing seasonal, organic, hyper-local, even hypoallergenic food for cats and dogs.”

Entertainment will be taken outside with outdoor screens and portable projectors rising in popularity, with sales of portable speakers up 497 per cent year-on-year, and outdoor lighting up a huge 527 per cent.

Indoors, the kitchen is set to become the heart of the home once more as Brits plan to grow their own produce using aquaponic kits.

And make-your-own cheese products have sold a staggering 676 per cent more year-on-year, as one of the products and experiences set to make Brits smile this summer.

Indoor plant sales have already gone up by more than 220 per cent, and The Future Laboratory predicts cocktail trollies, all things Coral Pink – Pantone’s 2019 Colour of the Year – and even at-home professional photography kits will trend as Britons look to get the perfect social media shot.

Keeping fit is expected to continue its rise in popularity, with the season’s most coveted fitness accessories including boxing gloves, junior cricket sets and even kids’ yoga mats.

Fearne Cotton’s Yoga Babies Guide has also shifted more than twice as many copies as it did last year.

When it comes to holidays, Brits will choose authentic experiences focused on exploring, with adventure backpack sales shooting up 110 per cent.

Sales of noise-cancelling headphones have also risen 164 per cent, and instant cameras selling nearly six times the volume.

Martin Raymond added: “When it comes to documenting travel, a generic beach shot just doesn’t cut it any more.

“Digital nomads and Generation Z travellers are coming up with increasingly creative ways to save and share their travel experiences, including short films, instant cameras and even old vintage cameras to challenge the filtered, highly manicured version of the city landmark selfie.”
