Chase Cooper Operational Risk Course Receives Academic Accreditation
Financial services executives seeking to better understand the discipline of operational risk are now able to take a newly accredited post-graduate level course that uniquely combines practical learning with a robust academic approach.
Chase Cooper is pleased to announce that its popular course, Practitioners’ Certificate for Operational Risk Management, is now accredited by Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) and the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at Level 11. This is at the post-graduate/Masters level and equivalent to Ofqual 7.
The Practitioners’ Certificate for Operational Risk Management course, which has been available for more than four years through Chase Cooper, currently has more than 350 graduates – from 34 countries and 141 organizations. Attendee organizations include banks, insurance companies, asset and fund managers, development banks, sovereign wealth funds, central banks, and regulators.
“This is the first and only operational risk course that combines theory on each topic with the learning that people acquire doing their jobs, as well as anonymised real-life examples. These examples are discussed in small groups and within the class as a whole,” says Professor Tony Blunden, course tutor and co-author of Mastering Operational Risk, a book that has sold over 10,000 copies in English, and has also been translated into simplified Chinese.
“This course with its accreditation at Masters level is a course aimed at people who are either already professionals and managers or who aspire to be so. It is the only course on operational risk that is recognised by a university at postgraduate level. By the end of the course, attendees have learned about the practical challenges of implementing and embedding a real programme – and how to solve them,” says Blunden, who has more than 20 years of experience in the discipline, both as a practitioner and as a consultant.
The Practitioners’ Certificate for Operational Risk Management course covers a range of important operational risk topics within a financial services firm, including:
• Understanding relevant operational risk regulations
• Building loss data, KRI, RCSA and scenario programmes
• Developing knowledge of op risk modelling
• Learning how to communicate the business benefit
• Creating op risk reports that aid risk-aware decision-making
Each attendee receives a copy of the best-selling Mastering Operational Risk prior to the start of the course, for self-learning. Courses are offered every four-to-six weeks.
Those who complete the course, which takes place over three days and concludes with an examination, have the option to go on to the Master Practitioners’ Certificate for Operational Risk Management, also offered by Chase Cooper.
“Chase Cooper is pleased to be supporting this important educational initiative in the operational risk discipline,” says John Kiddy, founder and CEO of Chase Cooper. “We are delighted to be working with a university that has supported academic work on management culture and style for over 150 years. We look forward to working with GCU on future educational projects that support the development of talent within the risk management industry.”
